Squirrel Self-Storage

Site for a self-storage yard near Bournemouth Airport — with a quote calculator for storing by the item, not just whole containers

The brief

I found Squirrel Self-Storage on Google Maps while looking at local businesses, and noticed they were running an old, self-made website that didn't do their yard justice. Rather than send a pitch, I built a draft of a new site and reached out to see if they'd be interested. They were. The business rents steel containers near Bournemouth Airport, and until now that was the only option: if you didn't need a whole unit, you had nowhere to go. They wanted to offer a new service where they look after specific boxes and items for people who don't need a full container, and the website needed to sell it as clearly as the containers.

What I built

I built a new site with a page for each way of storing: whole containers, store by the item, and student storage, plus a page for the surrounding areas, a gallery and a contact page. The centrepiece is a custom quote calculator. Visitors pick the boxes, beds, desks, bikes and other common items they need stored, watch a monthly price build up as they go, then choose whether they'd like free collection and a start date. Anything not on the list can be typed in, and the business prices it when they reply. The finished quote arrives by email as an itemised breakdown, so every enquiry is already half-answered before anyone picks up the phone. Alongside the build I moved the site onto the business's own domain, with the old addresses sorted out so nothing that was already indexed breaks.

The result

The site is live on Squirrel's own domain, fast on phones, and gives people who only have a handful of things to store a way in that didn't exist before: an instant price rather than a phone call to find out. I also refreshed their Google Business Profile to match the new site, with the same hours, phone numbers, description and services, including the new store-by-the-item option, so the listing on Google Maps and the website tell the same story.
