The brief
S A Saunders is a family carpentry and general building firm in Bream, in the Forest of Dean, trading since 1984 and now into its fourth generation. The business had no website at all, just a Google listing with a handful of phone photos. Shaun, who runs the firm, saw my Facebook advert and got in touch through my website. We had a quick call about what he was looking for, then I built a draft site for him to look at.
What I built
I built the draft from the photos on their Google Business Profile, plus some lovely old family photos that show the trade going back to Shaun's grandfather, and those became the heart of the About page. S A Saunders take on all forms of general building and carpentry, so rather than list every job I picked out the common themes and gave each its own service page: carpentry, roofing, extensions, lime plaster and stonework, and kitchens and interiors. They give potential clients an idea of what the firm can do, and each gives search engines a clear page to rank for the work people search for. There's also a gallery of the firm's real jobs and a contact page. Most enquiries to a firm like this start on a phone, so calling and WhatsApp are one tap away on every page, and there's an enquiry form that goes straight to Shaun's inbox, protected against spam without making real customers jump through hoops. I redrew the logo as clean artwork, and the site sits on its own domain.
The result
The site is live on S A Saunders' own domain, fast on phones, and gives a firm with forty years of local reputation a proper place to send people who've heard of them, and a way to be found by those who haven't. Hosting, uptime monitoring and the search-engine basics are all set up, and I'm updating their Google Business Profile to match the new site, so the listing on Google Maps and the website tell the same story. That leaves Shaun free to get on with the building.
